In early October, I was privileged to represent Shearwater Health at our first SCRS Site Solutions Summit. Reflecting on the summit confirms that we all play a role in connecting our healthcare ecosystem to benefit sites and patients. Ultimately, our common goal is to improve healthcare outcomes.
One topic seemed to dominate conversations more than others: Decentralized Clinical Trials’ (DCTs) and their impact on sites and patients.
In 2020, we were forced to change our perspectives around clinical trial delivery. DCTs are not a new concept but one that had struggled to be part of standard practice. A positive result of 2020 was the accelerated adoption and real-life experience around DCTs, trials that attempt to ease participation for patients by reducing or eliminating the need for onsite participation.
Sites are the direct link to patients #clinicaltrials #healthcare #change in the complex steps of clinical development. Patient centricity starts with site centricity, empowering the patient voice. Patient optionality, meeting the patient where they are, is critical when designing a clinical trial.
It’s more important than ever for service providers and site partners to understand the impact and need for DCTs today. We have an opportunity and responsibility to minimize the burden across the value chain with the right solution at the right time. DCTs are not an absolute solution but become a powerful tool in the overall clinical development toolbox.
At Shearwater Health we strive to be the leader in efficient, scalable, and accessible healthcare solutions. We deliver clinical solutions enabling DCTs through remote patient monitoring, patient engagement, safety, data curation, and much more. We do this through collaborations with providers, Pharma, CROs, and technology & data providers while keeping healthcare outcomes for patients at the forefront of everything we do.
